5-band Small Magnetic Loop Using LMR-400 Coax for 10-20 Meters Larry Nelson - K5IJB. The basic configuration of a small magnetic loop consists of the main loop, coupling loop, and capacitor - fixed or variable. Many configurations exist when constructing the main loop and secondary loop. The main loop material is RG213 Coaxial Cable, around 1 metre in diameter. The feed loop is RG58 soldered according to the picture shown. Other feed arrangements were tried. A toroidal ferrite core transformer for example with 8 turns on the primary and the loop passing through the core once acting as the secondary.
I`ve just built a magnetic loop for 20m, it is 1 metre circumferenceanduses a coaxial capacitor (RG58. QRP operation!!!), it receivesverywell but doesn`t transmit very well at all!!!!.it loads butT/X isn`tupto R/X.Any advice will be greatly appreciated. There's almost certainly nothing the matter with it.You can't expect a small QRP magloop to work as well as a 1/2-wavevertical with 100 watts. What makes you think it is not working as well as it ought to? Whathave you compared it with?-Reg, G4FGQ. And only5watts.Lee.G6ZSG.Figured as much. You might want to try the loop in a horizontal configurationfor omnidirectional work.
You'll probably find that you can operate it horizontallyjust a few inches above the ground although I recommend a couple feet.Irv VE6BP-Diagnosed Type II Diabetes March 5 2001Beating it with diet and exercise!297/215/210 (to be revised lower)58'/43'(!)/44' (already lower too!)-Visit my HomePage atVisit my Baby Sofia website atVisit my OLDTIMERS website at-Irv Finkleman,Grampa/Ex-Navy/Old Fart/Ham Radio VE6BPCalgary, Alberta, Canada.
